Overview
Armadillidium sp. 'Marbelized' is an underrated trade species displaying distinctive marbled cream, grey, and tan patterning. Its exact taxonomic status is still debated in the hobby, but its care aligns closely with other mid-sized Armadillidium. A robust, visually interesting species that performs well as both a pet and cleanup crew.
Habitat & Setup
Substrate mix: For best results, use Isopod Paradise Organic Substrate specifically formulated to support healthy colonies. If you would rather mix your own, we recommend a blend of 70% organic topsoil, 10% flake soil, 10% milled sphagnum moss, 8% organics(mushroom compost, earthworm castings and leaf litter) and 2% calcium
Hides & decor: Bark tubes and flats, leaf litter layer, moss patches, coco huts, lotus pods. Cuttlebone for calcium source.
Moisture: Moderate gradient — one-third damp, two-thirds dry. Mist weekly.
Diet & Feeding
Generalist detritivore. Enjoys a wide variety of foods and is easy to feed.
✓ Feed These
- Oak & magnolia leaf litter
- Squash, carrot, sweet potato
- Fish flakes or dried shrimp (2×/week)
- Powder formulas like Isopod Chow, Repashy Morning Wood, Bug Burger, etc.
- Dried mushroom powder (occasional)
Feeding frequency: Rotate foods on a weekly basis. Remove leftover food when food begins to mold.
Breeding & Lifecycle
Breeds readily under standard Armadillidium conditions. Good producer once colony is established.
Mancae care: Mancae are hardy. Marbling becomes visible within a few weeks of emergence.
Colony tips: A colony of 25+ adults will begin breeding consistently. Provide ample surface area with cork bark hides.
